I’ve been using this trick ever since I started going camping as a little kid, I would tell everyone it’s 5 hours until sundown at 9AM 😂

I freaked someone out when I did this once. I learned This back in Boy Scouts so it was kinda Just in my head as a thing you could do. My friends (not scouts) asked me what time it was and I just turned to the sun and threw my hand ups and counted for like 2 seconds and Said the time. They all thought I was joking until one of them asked their parents who aus a Phone on them… i was Off by 3 minutes haha.

I've been doing this for around 2 years. Pretty useful. Also telling north south by pointing the hour hand on your watch towards the south, and then drawing a line between the hour hand and 12.

This is also a great way to measure distance in the night sky between stars in degrees.

As a training pilot. One of the things they teach you is to use the horizon wnd fingers to see if youe flying level. In case the equipment on the dashboard is broken.

It works only in specific months throughout the year bc the length of days and nights change

I'm in Colorado. Sundown is based off of the mountains, so it still works. I've been using it for years
