Portal 2 - Bunny Hopping

danerdsskaters sent me a PM asking about Bunny Hopping. So, I made this video for that. There are a bunch of different methods, but you should be getting around high 300's in velocity (using cl_showpos 1) while bunny hopping (on this map since it is the video he sent me).

Also, I'm using a Logitech G500 with free-scroll and I have mouse wheel down bound to +jump. It works pretty well (except when you need to stop jumping). In general, I just act like I'm "swimming" or "weaving" when I'm bunny hopping. Enjoy!

I have the same mouse as you, and I never thought of using the freescroll as a method to spam commands like you're doing with bunnyhopping. Thanks, I'll try this sometime!

I have a G500 too and there's a better way.
Assuming you have a button on your mouse you don't use in Portal, just bind a repeating macro of space-down and up with a few milliseconds in between to it.
The G500 processes macros internally and independently of the mouse driver.

I played Counter-Strike for 6+ years. I didn't need to bunny hop. I also played Quake 3 Area for a couple of years, and bunny hopping in that is stupidly simple, I didn't need to do anything other than press space bar. If I'm trying to do a speedrun, I'm not going to rely on that in a Source engine game, because it isn't a reliable way to bunny hop. Also, I'm here to make routes and a speedrun of the game, not flaunt my skill or lack thereof. I'd still being using a script if it wasn't for SDA.

i don't use freescroll, but i do use my scroll wheel since it spams jump whenever i'm about to hit the ground :)

i neither had a tutorial for bhopping ot circle jumping and it just came too me natuarly. If you watch a guy play chess enough, you learn his ways and methods.

There is no ABH in this video. Just prancing around at slow speeds.

Actually, you'd still get more acceleration from prancing than from walking, so this could be posible! Please someone do a parody video!

I believe that counts as a script. Speedruns which make use of scripts are not accepted on SpeedDemosArchive.

Does the free-scroll really help you out, isn't it difficult to stop jumping with that feature on?
Anyway, I'm thinking about getting a Logitech G9x mouse (it also has free-scroll) do you think that will work out just as good?

Why would I do something manually when I can do it automatically? I can control my bunny hopping better if my MX Revolution worked correctly, where it automatically stops free-scrolling as the mouse wheel slows down.
