The words of 1 Peter 3:15–16 express my core values and ministry goal: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience.”

He is absolutely correct.Almost every Bible prophecy has two fulfillments: one that happens close to the time the prophecy was made and one that is the real actual fulfilment at a later stage. Jesus is never wrong He is just more efficient in His answers.

Consider the Mystery (Musterion=Secret in the Sacred Realm) of 1Cor 2:6-8 which is expanded on in Ephesians and other Epistles. The Secret is that the Age of Grace (Age of the Church) was hidden in God the Father from the very beginning of time. It was even hidden from Jesus during His earthly ministry. There are records of Jesus claiming info that only the Father knew, so it is understandable that the secret was kept from Him. He spoke of what He knew but wasn't aware that there would be an unknown time period (Pentecost to and including the Rapture) till His prophesied Second coming.
