My dad was a firefighter on the night of the Windsor Castle fire. They all received a medal and a personal thank you letter from Prince Charles.

It’s maybe worth mentioning that although the fire was a great tragedy, when the restoration started they discovered many things that they didn’t know was there. Hidden rooms, old decoration, etc. they even went the route of redoing most of the castle rooms in their original form, they all look spectacular now. So a disaster for sure but the castle looks better than ever now.

Seeing Windsor burn was heartbreaking -- I remember watching it as a 13 year old -- because of the history and art and architecture. I'm glad so much was saved and reconstructed, especially since I got to visit it myself in 2007. They did a fantastic job!

I never noticed the guards' buttons before - I dont spend too much time staring at uniforms but I can say I learned something about them today!

I was 33 at the time of the fire, so I guess I remember that big fire. It was a shame that something like that happened to such a historic castle I am from the USA and it hurt me deeply to see that castle burning.

I like to think that Simon has got a small sparrow or a robin nesting in his mighty beard🤘

Masterful strategic move... dying. Pretty final too one might say! My praise just goes out to the talking Beard and I suppose the bald lanky guy carrying it around. Who is that btw? For a great video as always. Always worth the time to learn something new🧐

that fire looks more like prince andrew needing a way to get priceless artwork out of the castle so he could sell a few to pay off jefrey

We all waited for Simon to say it, and he didn't disappoint with his haughty derision 🤣😂

I stayed in Windsor castle for about a week. Long story, but I can say they are very serious about keeping fire doors shut.

Had the opportunity as a young boy back in 1967 to visit England, and my grandmother and I took the tour of Windsor Castle one day. To my delight, hey I was nine, during the tour one of the guards was making faces at his commander, when the commander turned his back.. There was a large crowd and everyone was laughing and pointing. Not sure if it was "planned" or not, but it sure did break up the tour for a few minutes.

I remember seeing it on TV, and also going to Buckingham Palace once it was opened up.
My mother also had me and my sister design a layout for the refurbishment, as a way of keeping us occupied on a rainy day. She then sent it off to the Queen as a suggestion, and apparently the two look a lot alike. I don't remember doing it; it was a LONG time and many whacks to the head since.

I live 2 miles from Windsor Castle. I've visited it once. I'm 56. It's always been a tourist attraction rather than an actual thing to me.

Really interesting video. Perhaps you could do additional videos on the house guards. I found that very interesting and would like to learn more about their traditions and history

An American tourist in Windsor was once overheard saying "it sure is a mighty fine castle but why did they build it so far from the train station?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
