North Carolina Forecast: Level 2 risk for severe storms; hail, isolated tornadoes possible

Thursday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day with our viewing area under a Level 2 risk for severe storms. Meteorologist Mike Maze said we're expecting two rounds of severe storms on Thursday. Thursday's storms will pose several threats: damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. The good news is the morning commute should be dry.
Storms aren't expected to move through until after the morning commute, so the first part of the morning should be dry. The first round of storms is expected to hit our viewing area between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The main threat from this round of storms will be damaging winds. Hail and an isolated tornadoes will also be possible. The second round of storms is expected to move in from the west in the afternoon and evening.
This round of storms is expected to arrive around 3 p.m. and will continue until around 6 p.m. Severe storms are possible with both rounds. The high temperature on Thursday is forecasted to be 90 degrees, but the heat index will be close to 100 degrees.
