How does the shock absorber of a via ferrata set work?

A via ferrata set is made of carabiners that are hooked to the steel cable, elasticated arms that allow for freedom of movement, a shock absorber that absorbes the forces in the event of a fall and the tie-in loop that is used to make the connection to the harness.

Thanks for sharing this! I see this as a reminder to be careful and only go out in good weather and to climb within my capabilities.

You can always use a sling to friction-hitch yourself to the steel cable, if the going gets too exhausting. No need to risk a fall.

Yeah, the gear is mainly there to keep you attached to the wall in case you fall. Don't fall.
