Hi Spacecats, I'm Dr Maggie Lieu and welcome to my channel, where you can find all things space, astronomy and physics! In this video, I talk about the newly discovered star Earendel, at a redshift of 6 this is potentially the furthest away resolved star, ever to be observed!

I’m simply amazed at the amount of information that we are able to gain on an object that’s so far away

Hello from the future, when we have z 16 galaxies. I was going to ask a question but I found out here: "The largest-observed redshift, corresponding to the greatest distance and furthest back in time, is that of the cosmic microwave background radiation; the numerical value of its redshift is about z = 1089"

The red shift calculation must assume it is traveling faster.
How can you assume that?

I wonder if this is the first astronomical object whose name is inspired by Tolkien's lore. Great video 😀

What is different? Science for one and Medicine for another both close yet so very far apart! I've seen 'em all & no one but the excellent: renowned DrMaggieLieu has come has come even reletively close to restoring? You are the best {in mine auld eyes ie:} :-}
