HP DeskJet 2700 Series Review - HP DeskJet 2755e Review

This printer is the same as the HP DeskJet 2722, HP DeskJet 2724, HP DeskJet 2755, HP DeskJet 2775, Hp DeskJet 2734, HP DeskJet 2732

In this video, I’ll be reviewing the HP DeskJet 2755e all-in-one inkjet printer. Now, while this is a review of the HP DeskJet 2755e, the review applies to all DeskJet 2700 series printers, they’re almost identical to the DeskJet 2755e. Once unboxed and set up, you’ll notice that the HP DeskJet 2700 series printers are very compact measuring in at about 17 inches wide by 22 inches deep by about 10 inches tall, even with the output tray fully extended. The printer is also fairly easy to set up and I have separate videos for how to set it up using a Windows Computer, Mac or mobile device, so feel free to check those out. One recommendation to HP, if you’re listening, is to reduce the number of steps required during the setup process. The sheer number of prompts and terms and conditions and questions you need to answer to set up a printer is just becoming very annoying. Don’t try sell all sorts of add-on stuff during setup, it just increases the number of people returning your printer out of sheer frustration. Once the printer is up and running, it fits right into any modern home or office with its understated design and its black and grey plastic body - which is a bit of a throwback to printers from the 90s. The DeskJet 2700 series has scanbed that lets you scan or copy pages as large Letter or A4. There is no automatic document feeder, so you will need to scan or copy pages one at a time. If you to scan a bunch of pages all the same time, I would recommend getting the HP DeskJet 4155 instead. I’ll leave a link to that printer as well, right below the video. Scanned documents can be saved as PDFs and JPEGs, using the HP smart app. And the app does allow you to scan multiple pages and combine them into a single PDF document. The deskjet 2700 series continues HP’s trend of reducing the number of controls and menus on the printer to a bare minimum. There’s a tiny little black and white screen with an ink level indicator and very few other pieces of info. And there are very few buttons- including the power button and buttons to make copies. I really miss having more of those physical buttons and menu options. And when I miss them the most is when the printer just refuses to connect to your home wifi network, there’s almost no way to manually get the printer to connect to your home wifi network. This is really something HP should remedy- this new approach makes no sense at all- especially when the old approach worked just fine. Despite my minor gripe with the on-board controls, the printer allows you to print from almost any computer or mobile device in your home and produces pretty decent color and black and white print quality, especially considering this is an entry-level all-in-one inkjet printer. The print speed was also surprisingly decent and is more than sufficient for home or home office prints. The printer uses the 67 series black and tricolor series cartridges. You can always use the 67XL series cartridges if you want a higher print yield per cartridge. I’ll leave links to both versions, right below the video. The version I am reviewing here, the 2755e, actually comes with an included 6 months of HP instant ink, which is HPs cartridge subscription service. This service does work out to be more economical, if you plan to do a lot of printing. For most people though, I just recommend buying cartridges as and when needed. Though this is primarily meant to be a WiFi connected printer, it does have a USB port in the back, which allows you to connect it directly to a single computer. They don’t provide a USB cable with it, so I’ll leave a link to a USB cable that’ll work, in the description below.
So should you buy a HP DeskJet 2700 series printer? Well, that all depends on what you plan to use it for. If you need a compact printer to make occasional prints or scan documents at home, the DeskJet 2700 series will work just fine and won’t break the bank. Despite its minor quirks and annoying interface, it is kind of the best of the worst options out there. Most inkjet printer are just plain clunky and glitchy- that’s just become a fact of life. And the DeskJet 2700 is pretty much one of the less clunky, glitchy options out there - that is…until printer manufacturers finally figure out how to make reliable printers. So I’ll leave a link to this printer below, in case you’re looking to buy one. Hope this review has been helpful.

I just bought 2742e series and I don't like anything about it. I will try to return it or give to Goodwill if I can't 😢 I hope others have better luck than I did.
* Just wanted you to know that I did like your post (I had already mostly set it up but as you went further, I came to the conclusion that this will not suit my purposes and I'm at a standstill - have mostly used HP products, soooo)

I have the all-in-one 2700 series and my issue is staying connected to Wi-Fi and now I get an error stating that the door is open or it's out of paper so that's what I'm dealing with now with the 2700

I bought this printer thinking it would be a cheap color printer because I only needed to print a few color pages here and there. I printed 3 pages and then it went to sleep. A few months later it was offline. After spending an hour to get it back online and entering a inkjet PIN # it failed to print anything. My only option now is to subscribe to their monthly fee of $6.00 USD to print a maximum of 50 pages per month. One Star piece of junk.

I bought this printer, set-up was easy & really liked this printer. I enjoyed printing for a couple of months. THEN, I think it got knocked offline when we had a power outage and I've wasted HOURS of my life running in circles with their instructions trying to it reconnected with NO LUCK. I've read many other reviewers with the same problem. I'm so frustrated and will NEVER use a wireless product again. I've ordered the USB cable and hope I'll be able to connect this printer. There was a sticker over the USB port with a slash through it so I hope that just meant that the USB cable was not included and not that there is no USB capability. Have only owned this thing for 7 months 😞

I have this printer and I actually like it. I don’t have anymore issues or at least nothing major. Sometimes it disconnects from the WiFi or can’t be found on pc. But it’s not a deal breaker. I just unplug it and plug it back in and it works just fine.

I had a couple of these. One refused to stay connected to wi-fi (while I had AT&T and when I switched to Verizon). It also refused to work if I tried the corded approach, constant trying to search for a wireless signal instead. The other refused to print without faded tones (color and b/w), so I had to re-calibrate it every single time I wanted to print something. That is not an exaggeration. Every. Single. Time. And the process sometimes took up to half an hour (only when I was short on time of course). Sometimes when trying to print color things would come out looking like stretched pixelation (that includes text documents). Called customer support for both and was told the machines were fine, I must be doing something wrong, but they couldn't be bothered to tell me what I was doing wrong or walk me through it (in the case of the 2nd, they were adamant I forgot to put in new cartridges...even tho I told them that was the first thing I did, and they said I must be mistaken)... Maybe I'm just really unlucky, but I'm switching to a better printer. Hopefully the issue was I got what I paid for...

Thank you! Just what I needed. I ended up buying it via Amazon but forgot to use your link. I would add a tip but you don't seem to be participating in the Youtube "Thanks" feature--at least it doesn't appear in the list.

Considering buying this printer and stumbled upon your video. Just need a basic one to print word documents and return labels in my home office. Thanks for the review!

Since they are under the same series does it makes sense to pay more for the 2742e vs the 2755?

Hi, great video to watch n informative. Ive got the deskjet 2700 n ive just tried to use it. My grandkids used it a few months ago and hav changed a couple of things in the paper settings so now it wont print at all n screen is flashing E2. Im not tech savvy so i aint got a clue what to do to fix this can it be reset so everything will go back to original as when bought. It is no longer in warranty but only used about 5 times. 😪😪 My advice is don't even consider this printer, unless you want to have to get permission from Big Brother (HP). Like other reviewers I've had major very frustrating issues with keeping it connected & being able to print. Also, HP will constantly try to sell you more products & services, especially because they know everything you do (they're connected via wifi or you can't print). Don't buy one. You can have mine. I just bought another printer that I can just plug in & use.
