The God of Fear & Hunger is a newly born being which is said to rival even the Old Gods in Fear and Hunger. This being was originally the Girl character, but she ascended to Godhood due to the soul of the Ancient One residing inside of her. The soul laid dormant in her for years, but when it is brought to the altar of darkness within the God of the Depths, the girl is grotesquely transformed into the God's true form.

It is revealed the soul of the ancient one was created by the union of the New God, Nilvan the Endless one and Le'garde, the man of prophecy. While the creation of the God of Fear and Hunger leads to the death of the player character, she shows mercy on us and her ascension marks a new age for humanity.

The best thing about her transformation is the irony. The final form of the God of Fear and Hunger is a Scarecrow, which is a sort of idol placed in crop fields to scare of crows and protect the crops. So it thematically fits her identity as a God but is also a massive middle finger to the God of the Depths as his symbol is a crow. So the girl not only stole his divine essence to ascend she also basically stated that her divine goal was to fuck him over in every way possible likely as a sort of revenge for her torment within the dungeons of fear and hunger.

At first I genuinely was terrified at her grotesque ascension. But the fact that she shows mercy upon you just pulls my heart strings. She remembers you as a family. She shows no discrimination when the Cruel Age starts yet you’re the first one she spares being a part of her family. She was indeed ascended into godhood and I no longer see her ascension as a monsterification but rather an appointpent of a responsibility far beyond human comprehension.

If the girl has the dagger and the strange doll equipped, she'll skip her first few turns from the fond memories she has of you!
I think it's also kind of, wholesome somehow, that you're the only one "spared" of the age of cruelty, because the girl genuinely was fond of the player character (at least she should be. If you abused the girl I'm going to hunt you down.)

God of Fear and Hunger didn't killed the MC. She is offering him eternal rest in that darkness. She acknowledged his and all mankind's suffering, the only god who would. Mankind will no longer rely on old gods for a miracle, but let Fear and Hunger drive them forward evolution and advancements.

I have a theory that New God Cahara exists because of her. unlike the original timeline girl who just straightly kills him...an alternate version of the girl after Ascending to Godhood kills Cahara and ascends him at the same time. remember that Cahara's new God form represents death.

It's only me, but the last stage of the god of fear & hunger reminds me of the statue of the Woman from Lemb, also know as a god of the death

Many see this as a bad ending and the world will suffer a cruel fate, there is a silver lining.

The God of Fear and Hunger was born because the Girl knew nothing but Fear and Hunger, yet she also knew of the Player Character. She knew their phobias, their strengths, their will to keep moving forward, what they are willing or not willing to sacrifice for their survival, how they kept her safe until the very end despite being a burden, etc, ... In a way, the Player Character is now part of this New God.

The New Age she bring may be one of Fear and Hunger, but these two things will help drive mankind forward, to progress their civilization past the need to rely on the Old Gods that never cared for them in the first place. She does not play tricks or lie, nor does she scheme and use humans for some games. This New God is a cruel one, but one wholly on the side of mortals. Not to coddle them, but push them to better themselves.

This is really poetic and works thematically, but the game does specify that she is a very vague symbol, intentionally, so she's relatable and easily projected onto by people who are drawn to her by the universal pressure of fear and hunger.

Even when told outright what the ruse is, we can't help but play along.
