Wow, I'm in shock. This poem puts the broad issue of standardized testing into such detailed perspective that I'm literally blown away. This needs to go viral.

I could not agree more with everything she said. As a minority who has been where those children are, it was the reason why I became teacher. To help children like me when teachers like the ESL leader can't.

This poem really touched a nerve about some of the injustice and inequality in the education system. Great job!

I admit with shame... thoughts of teaching private or my small town neighbors. These thoughts kept taking over my original dream of teaching to make a difference for the poor and disadvantages. I thought.... oh more resources, my friends kids, kids with supplies, comfy rooms, nice trips, better gifts, people will say OH YOUR AT A NICE SCHOOL etc. None of that matters but I kept going back to that thought. I told myself its okay because well at least a few kids will be disadvantaged and at least I will be safe.

Your short poem was in no way simple, it awoke my dream and slapped me back into reality. I can do this, i need to do this, i want to do this, & im going to do this! My happiness, my purpose, their dreams will not be ignored so I can live easy or fit into society or not be asked "cant you get a job at a better school".

My English teacher from last year always told the story of how she had to give a girl who had recently moved from Egypt the MCAS when she could only hold a basic English conversation and nothing else. Of course, she didn't do well. I felt bad for her even though I'd never met her. Great poem 👏
