Splatherdab [SPLA-ther-dahb]
(n.)
- A loose-lipped chatterer, a gossip, a voluble scandal-monger.
- One who spreads juicy little bits of gossip to the neighbors.
Originating in the region of Northamptonshire & Warwickshire England. A variant of ‘splatter’ combined with ‘dab’ which calls to mind the notion of splashing the gossip around wantonly.
Used in a sentence:
"Mr. Thratch was known as the town splatherdab; always sniffing about for a juicy tidbit to spread around to the neighbors!”
