"Managers change things, Leaders change the world."

Very important distinction right there. Makes perfect sense.

Managers do all of these things as well. The distinction between managers and leaders is often hyped up and reflects a stereotypical bifurcation rather than a qualitatively distinct reality. In truth, many leaders need to manage operations and many managers need to inspire people.

I've watched this multiple times over the past few years and it always makes me think about if I'm being a manager or a leader with my staff. I would like to think I am a leader and they would follow.

I'm very impressed with this video. I'm sad to say the my manager is leaving my company and she's been the ideal leader, supporting, motivating and constructive. She was the anti-manager. She encouraged idea building and freedom to choose how the work gets done. I love this video because it reinforces my beliefs about the best people to work with. My former leader, not manager, acted as a partner with me in our business rather than a person who needed to breathe down my neck and enforce unimportant guidelines and regulations. I grew instead of retreated as a result.

"A leader… is not worried about positional equity or formal authority because they know they are in the business of creating a tribe and developing more leaders." Thanks for sharing this, Scott!

Hi, Scott, I'm in college right now as I write this comment and this video is in my studies you talked about how you lead not manage your staff. And that alone says a lot because there are a lot of churches as well as the company's don't know the difference between the two. And for me, it will take me a long way in whichever to go. Thank you, Scott.
