World's Oldest Domesticated Wolves Discovered in Germany

Researchers have found the world’s oldest domesticated wolves in a single cave in Germany dating back over 16000 years.

After analyzing the morphology, genetics, and isotopes of the Gnirshöhle canid remains, the researchers noted that the specimens seem to be descended from multiple ancient wolf lineages, including one that doesn’t match any other canid lineage from the region.

Results of the isotope analysis indicated that the canids consumed a low-protein diet that differed greatly from that of wild wolves, thereby suggesting that they had been fed by humans.

You know when the first guy had a Wolf as a pet everyone else would suddenly want one.

I was in Germany from August of 2017 to January of 2018 and while I was there a wolf had moved into the area that I was staying in. I was the first wolf to be sighted in the are in 150 years near the town of Wald-Michelbach in state of Hesse in the Odenwald forest. You guys talking about this topic made me think of that and my time over there, thank you!

I’ve made friends with a crow recently. I like to eat my breakfast outside on my deck. I started leaving some leftovers out for it. Now I can feed it out of my hand. It doesn’t like when I look right at it. I have to watch it in my peripheral.

I would think it would be orphaned pups to start. From habituated packs

I think black or brown bears would be incredible pets if they were bred to be significantly smaller and calmer.

I'd like to domesticate squirrels. I fed one a payday by hand in my grandma's backyard at age 9 and have always wished we had domesticated pet squirrels ever since.

I assumed they probably got a wolf pup or so as opposed to taming an adult wolf.

What would I domesticate? depends on the continent.

North America: Eastern striped skunk. 46 of them showed up over two weeks at an old house I used to live in because the forest was being cleared. We didn't feed them or anything, but they acted like cats and rubbed against our legs, let us pet them, etc. One of them was albino, but they never sprayed.

South America: Glyptodons no question, I mean, who doesn't want a tank for a pet?

Africa: Servals or Caracals

Europe: European Badgers

Asia: Sloth Bears or Indian Crested Porcupines. Either one, I doubt the neighboring war tribe would want anything to do with you after that.

Oceania: Obviously the Thylacine. No need to explain myself here.

Bonus: New Zealand: Haast's eagle. Become the most powerful person in the country in one fell swoop. Literally and figuratively,

I literally have thoughts like this about a bunch of stuff. Like who was the first person who let fruit or whatever sit for so long and then was like.. "imma drink that." . That or who was the first person to let milk sit for so long and was like.. "imma eat that".. like what was the trial and error like lmao
