I think the only thing Nico is ignoring in the "Iced out versions are worth less than plain-jane versions" is that people will pay more to be able to say they own the watch that used to be [insert random celebrity name here]'s - maybe not now, but definitely in a few years / decades. And to rappers it could even be more of a status symbol to show that you've got enough disposable income to make your watch worth *less*, just like ordering an expensive bottle of champagne and then pouring it out.
Nouveau riche is a silly culture after all.

And then again, if it's completely iced out they might have used a replica as you won't be able to see the difference anymore anyway.

I was once stood behind Brown in line in a Vons in Las Vegas right before the news about Rhianna. He was buying some baby wipes (no kidding) and then left.
