I was diagnosed with stage4 esophageal cancer in February of 2023, after many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. I had surgery in July where they took 1/2 my esophagus. My three week post op visit with the surgeon I was told I was cancer free

I got an answer from my gastroscopy tissue sample today, and I have a chronic inflammation in the esophagus, and something called Barret's Esophagus, and I'm using medicine for acid reflux every day now, and can hardly sleep if I don't have my head high up in the bed. The letter say's the inflammation might develop into esophageal cancer, and I have to do routine checks from now on. I just wonder if there's anything I can do, or not do, to lessen the possibility to get cancer. I stopped smoking about two years ago, since I felt a kind of chest pain because of this, and got scared of developing lung cancer, but I think it was just the acid reflux, giving the burning sensation in the chest. I eat a lot of heavy foods, often with lots of spices, and have had a bad habit with drinking a lot of cola, hardly ever drinking water at all, and the last years I've also gotten a problem with drinking alcohol. I noticed that I felt a lot better when eating lettuce mixed with various things, and like cucumber and similar. So I just wonder if that's something I should do more of, or something else I should do? I have a son that just turned 18 that's on the autism spectrum, that I wish I could spend more time with and be a good father for. I've had a pretty difficult life, but I'm only 44, so I don't want to get some almost incurable illness until I know at least that my child is OK.
