I’ve been trying to realize what “my problem was” for the past 10 years.. My brother always watched out for me as a kid.. He was my protector. I went away to the Army at 18 knowing that I would be lucky if I didn’t overdose and die and somehow by the grace of God ended up in prison instead.. I was doing well.. But things back home were unraveling like I knew they would. I did Iraq.. I did Afghanistan. He died of an overdose right before my second daughter was born.. I’ve been carrying a weight ever since. I now realize that weight is survivor’s guilt thanks to this song. War is hell.. but so is small town America after the opioid epidemic. I’m thankful for the clarity. God bless..

I was almost a "David, " to my family, in 2018. Flipped my 92 S10 at 60 mph, in a 10ft ditch. Nobody thought I was alive, till I started talking and moving. I was a firefighter and sailor, before all this. Yet I still had to crawl out of a crushed up, upside down truck, to only be charged for a DUI. I was lucky to walk away, but I didn't feel that way, back then.
