I have joined a gym. My appetite has increased two folds. I always feel so much hungry

I've only ever been able to lose weight when NOT exercising. When I do any cardio or lifting my appetite spikes to maximum literally all my waking hours. It feels like my body thinks I'm gonna die if I don't eat. It's maddening.

Great video! I’ve always found my appetite goes through the roof when consistently working out. Whenever I take breaks or hit a slump I always end up eating less!

After a session, which normally lasts 2 hours be it weights or cardio I'm normally kinda hungry but for the most part that's only cause I work out on a relatively empty stomach(it's more comfortable for me to workout when I don't feel full)

I didn't naturally get hungry when I started working out so I started eating more because I knew I needed more to gain weight/muscle mass. But due to the expanding of my stomach while I was eating more. I would then eat more after an intensive workout due to my increase in capacity as a "refuel" meal. Since I cut back my diet I haven't filled myself up as much on gym days.

My experience is that I feel hungrier overall within the first two weeks of starting training after a break, never right after training.
It was a surprise to me that none of the studies mentioned address this timing at all.

I'd be interested to see long term data on this. A runner consistently burning more calories regularly, a weight lifter putting on muscle and raising their BMR, or perhaps most relevantly, a balanced routine. The laws of thermodynamics require something changes in those scenarios. Whether it be muscle atrophy to reduce BMR, increased intake of calories and proteins, or reduction in activity.

Whenever I get tired of working out I can’t wait to eat, and when I get tired of eating I can’t wait to start working out. It’s a pretty good cycle

My hunger pangs really hit peak levels the more I increase my weight training. The harder I hit the weights, the hungrier I get.

I was never sedentary until I hit 17, when I had a tendinitis and ended up stopping everything for a good while.
While I didn't notice any increase, since I had always done exercises in the first place. Once I was forced to stop, tho...

Some days after I stopped, I guess when my body actually noticed it wasn't "just a break", my appetite just disappeared for around 1 or 2 weeks, I was never a person that needed to eat too much (that was literally my "top weight" of all time and I was at less than 130lbs), but in that small period it was like I had just gone back to when I was a kid leaving food on my plate, my appetite just ceased to exist

I would say it's less hunger directly after working out and more increased hunger on average. Anecdotally, I do eat maybe 10-15% more food when I'm consistently working out compared to being more sedentary. For my whole life the formula has been: Not working out = eat less = lose weight (probably losing muscle mass). Working out = gain of appetite = gain weight (mostly good weight).

I think it depends on person to person and on their goals, If a person is obese and trying to lose weight then i think the body will try to prevent the weight loss by increasing the hunger hormones etc.

I know it's purely anectodal but the first/second months of training after a long break (injury/work/etc) I feel like I am starving at all times. After that first period, it kinda normalizes itself, still hungry enough to eat (enough to feed a small family lol) but it doesn't feel nearly as bad

I don't know if lifting makes me hungrier, but it definitely makes me want more protein rich foods (i.e. eggs. all of the eggs). That could very well be a learned behavior rather than a natural one, though

I get really hungry after a lifting session (I usually train for 45-1 hour), I'll be angry and nervous, but then I'll calm down after eating immediately. 🤔🤷‍♂️ That doesn't mean I eat more than I should or crave sth sweet, I just feel so hungry that I can't help, but to eat immediately after finishing my workout.
