Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Reserve (Explained)

In this video, we compare the Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Chase Sapphire Reserve to see which Chase credit card is worth it. Each of these credit cards is great, and this Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Reserve video covers everything. Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure.

Both of these Chase Sapphire cards will give you good value no matter what - whether that’s from the welcome bonus, points earning categories, points redemption features, or other benefits. But with a $550 annual fee on the Sapphire Reserve vs the Sapphire Preferred with its $95 annual fee, for some people it can be tough to justify the more expensive credit card. But here, we go over how to decide which of these popular travel credit cards will be best for you based on your spending and how you plan to redeem those points. We’ll also talk about some of the other benefits and features found on both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Chase Sapphire Reserve which can be useful for those that travel a lot.

Overall, I think that if you do plan to travel frequently, then the Sapphire Reserve might be the better option. If you just want better value for a cheaper annual fee, then the Sapphire Preferred might be better. But there is a lot to consider, so this video tries to cover it all to help you decide what is best for yourself.

Travel a lot, like twice a month? Reserve. Travel once or twice a year? Preferred. Use cards purely for protections? Reserved. Use the cards strictly for travel partners? Prefered.

The Preferred is going to bring a lot of value to most everyday regular normies like myself. If you have an abover average spending rate--paroticularly on travel--the reserve may be a better option.
Either way both cards are metal, so that's a massive benefit.
Great video!

Definitely the CSR has more value for me because I live in NYC and frequently take Lyft rides to commute to work. That 10 pts for each Lyft ride has easily been my driving engine to my chase trifecta along CFF & CFU which all together has massively boosts my Chase Ultimate Reward.

This was a very well executed video. I think everyone should do credit card comparisons like this. This takes into account how the average person might spend. And is very easy to understand for dummies like me. Thank you for taking the time to do this

I appreciate you pointing out the option of upgrading or downgrading to other chase cards and still be able use the points balance . Thats definitely has made my decision making easier . Thank you for the inputs .

I agree: the CSP is probably the better way to go first, and at the end of the first year, you can choose if you want to upgrade to the CSR. That's exactly how I would play it! Great comparison video! Also, nice background color contrast with the blue and yellow - your studio setup is coming along quite nicely!!

I have the Chase Sapphire Preferred now and I’ve been contemplating to upgrade to the reserve! My wife and I want to travel more but I can’t get over the $550 a year price. This video was great!

I have the CSP and I find it a more usable everyday card. Living in a major city I love the multipliers on my everyday spending from coffee in the morning to riding the subway, dining, taxi/uber etc. It's a great card that I can easily justify the AF. This is great vid as always Daniel💥

Terrific job Danny!!! The CSP is perfect for me. The welcome bonus was perfect last year (100K points, plus no annual fee in the first year), the transfer partners are great (especially Hyatt), and for the occasional traveler, coupled with a Freedom card, it's a great combination. I don't travel quite enough to see the value in the Reserve, but I can see why many like it.

Amazing job as usual Sir!

I think if you travel more than few times a year, the CSR makes more sense based on the $300 travel credit. You don’t have to use the travel portal for it, so it’s very flexible.

I have been using CSR for several years now. During this time, I booked several free flights and hotels using points. I also use Priority Pass lounges a lot. CSR is the card for me.

I just got the saphire preferred but I don’t travel often at all. But I’ve read preferred is great if you dine a lot.

I think one of the biggest deciding factors for me is the insurance coverage when traveling but that isn’t mentioned here. Will research more but reserve might be my pick here even though I don’t travel that much

This help me! I applied for CS Preferred and got approved. I was “pre-approved” on their Chase app for both cards. But I opted for the $95 a year card. Got $10000 credit limit. 🌴✈️

Thanks for making this video! Appreciate! I was thinking of upgrading to reserve but after watching it makes more sense just to hold on to preferred :)
