You're confusing development for the Wordpress platform (coding plugins and themes by hand) with people who will call themselves developers just because they can get around Wordpress. There's a difference, a HUGE difference I might add.

Many wordpress developer r also great coders.. There is option in wordpress where u can make...code php javascript to make ur own theme.. Who said wordpress developer r not coders technology is something which makes our life easy nd if this making sites macking easy then u should also use that my frnd.. Wordpress is typically used by agencies who want custom designs for their clients. Builders can’t generate the same customization. It’s also mainly for frontenders who don’t want to deal too much with building backend from scratch.

You should define a wordpress developer because I think of a developer as a coder not someone who uses drag and drop.

Rod has a point about low end or junior level WP developers. Very hard to find a job unless a company is willing to train you, or unless you have a decent portfolio.

Do WordPress developers even code anymore or can the entire website be easily built using page builders? Will there be a need for WordPress developers in ten years? Twenty years? Lastly, do WordPress developers often have to customize themes and plugins? Any advice would be appreciated.

Wordpress developer is a full stack programmer that can develop on wordpress application. Drag and drop to make a website is not a wordpress developer so never market yourself as wordpress dev if you do drag and drop and can't coding.

You can say this because you are a coder. Wordpress Developer has their own versions too :) Remember WordPress, Theme, Plugins are just a tools. If you don't know how to used it. Then that's the problem. If you are just referring to doing drag and drops, those are not WordPress developers. They are ordinary person trying to create website using wordpress :) cheers

You sound disgruntled. WordPress developers are coders too. Its a versatile and dynamic and open source platform so you're always learning. You CAN code your own website/themes, plugins etc and a good developer uses clean code. If you're a good developer, you can make good money as a WP developer. But agreed, marketing as a full stack/front end developer is more lucrative. Having a marketing/UX background helps a lot too

Web developers aren't "afraid" of this stuff. For example: Being able to install wordpress quickly doesn't affect what web developers do. It's also not new, at all... that stuff was easy 10 years ago. Developers write code, and even people who use Squarespace/Wix/etc don't need to write code. You can still be a "Wordpress developer" and do well... because you're full stack / front end, and your skills aren't crap. (Installing websites and dragging elements around is low skill and easy, crap work. You can still make money at it, but not forever.)
