Banksy posted an update video showing more of the prank build and the shredding mechanism. But he's still trolling us!

My guess is that it failed, because of a cold soldering :-)

The “square” pieces on the rollers look like where the test canvas started wrapping the cutter. The third roller added would be to prevent it.

I think the shredding stopped precisely where it was programmed to. This was a very elaborate stunt and I'm not buying "failure". Also the "final" shredded piece is just too artistic to be a mistake.

An artist who does not like his art to be auctioned off, but has his own authentication company? Yeah, very sincere... I think Banksy is a very clever guy who found a very good way to double the value of his art in an instant. And the shredder was never meant to shred the whole painting. It never failed, it worked exactly the way it was built to work.

That staple gun you referred to is actually a T225 tab driver used for picture framing.

I think Banksy's true identity is AvE.

I can see the video. Has the blocking been removed?

when I saw the finger on the hot part of the soldering iron I was thinking at exactly the same shutterstock pictures that you showed :-)

I just cannot believe no one from Sotheby's noticed after almost 300 years of experience that there is something fishy. I mean, frame is like 3 times thicker than a normal frame and it must have been very heavy with all that big machined parts, rollers, batteries and that big motor. I'm not convinced yet, sorry.

I like how the battery's page states "The maximum charging voltage of 14.9 volts must be exceeded in any case. Risk of explosion. ".
Hardcore charging, don't buy if you're a wuss.

the window through the back is to show the signature and dedication note by Banksy - as described in the quick shot the southerby's art note at 14:44

It says “signed and dedicated on the reverse” so that’s what’ll be in the window

Dave, it seems that the video is no longer blocked. I can view it now.

at 12:47 the tool that he is using is called a "point driver". It is used by picture framers to lock on the back panel without taking a chance of blowing out the front of the frame.

5:51 that belt is broken, but the same type as in 6:06. Looks like it was massively overloaded (teeth gone and only the inner fibers holding it together) and then replaced with the wider belt (6:50). Requiring _that_ much torque doesn't make it look very professional!

6:10 that canvas is white on the back, those white "squares" are the canvas strips that got rolled between the knifes.

That screwdriver set at 9:24 is from iFixit, which I believe were not available for sale in in 2006 (when this canvas/prank was supposedly 'created')

The stapler is not a conventional stapler. It's a tab gun that puts those tabs in.

Statement: Banksy dosn't like his work being sold - is false, if that were the case why would he be authenticating the work - utter rubbish.

Whatever Banksy’s true motives are, you can’t deny that his out of the box work is extremely thought provoking and certainly gets loads of people (including EEVblog) talking about it. And at the end of the day, that is what the best art in the world is about.
