I can't believe I didn't know this about Romani people. I'm African-American, by the way. I'm going to make sure I acknowledge the Romani and their struggle from now on. I've learned so much from you - thank you for spreading knowledge, wisdom and love, brother!

The parallels between the Roma and Black Americans are uncanny. The experience of chattel slavery, the myth of their innate criminality, but also their outsized contributions to popular culture in areas like music and entertainment. I’ve learned so much from Florian, this is really great content! Especially since the history of the Roma is so closed over.

Incredible video series. Romani experienced the genoicide of the holocaust AND 500 years of chattel slavery and yet they remained opressed and abandoned. Thank you Florian for educating your viewers in such a powerful way...excellent work.

As someone from The States, who also have severe blindspots in how we teach our history, I wanna say thank you for teaching me.

It should not be your job, it should have been done by someone before you, but thank you genuinely for educating about your people.

as a native canadian person, i really appreciate you sharing your culture and spreading awareness of the prosecution of your people. my peoples history have been persecuted since contact 400 years ago.

our history is also not shared often despite the death toll of the result of colonization being higher than the death toll of ww2 yet everyone shows no empathy towards us and have no problem being openly racist towards us. i appreciate you and roma people. it’s beautiful culture. so colourful and lively. many connections and similarities to natives of north america.

The Uncle Tom's Cabin comparison is really enlightening because it makes you realise just how recent the history of Romani slavery actually is! That is about as recent as the abolition of slavery in the US. Truly horrifying and shameful!

My heart hurts. My ancestors were taken from India to Guyana to replace the African slaves. While there were hardships and heartache it was nothing like you described. The indenture program lasted 5 years. Your story parallels what African slaves experienced.

As a Jewish man, I deeply sympathize with your nation's history of grief, persecution and homelessness. Your channel is a gem, I've been trying to find an educational channel about Romani history for quite some time, but most of them didn't cite any sources.
Peace be upon you, brother -

Thank you for educating us all! ❤
As a German in school I was taught much about the Holocaust, and Roma are often just listed among the victims without any other context. Aside from that I know the stereotypes. I have been taught that some words are not to be used and the stereotypes are not true, but *nothing* else, no alternatives.

I'm from Rajasthan (India)
Here, we have a lot of groups in western Rajasthan, whose main profession is folk dancing and singing.
One of them is "KALBALIYA" community and "BHOPA" community of Western Rajasthan, who are considered ancestors of Romani people. They still are engaged in the same profession.
Love from India Bro ❤❤

Idk why short videos are becoming more and more popular these days and actual full length videos barely getting any engagement. Thank you for taking the time out and educating us in the history and culture of Roma.

I am Romanian. I studied our history for years, I was really interested in this subject and I can't believe that I never heard of this. It is outrageous, I lived in complete ignorance.
Thank you for this history lessons. I can't wait to learn more.

This was very informative and extremely necessary to be available for those who want to learn this history, which as you mentioned is purposefully buried. But on a personal note, it was heartbreaking to hear the atrocities that were committed, justified and now ignored by the Romanian state! Please keep educating us of your history and culture!

My family is from diaspora but my mom has been really trying to dig into our history lately-- she found DNA markers from South Asia, North Africa, and across Eastern Europe. I'm not really sure what to make of it-- if it's okay to embrace who we think we might be or if its just pulling at straws-- but what I do know is learning about Romani history is beneficial for everyone. Thanks for doing what you do:)

I am flashed about how I could grow up on the European continent without ever hearing a single word of this history.

In my opinion the value you add to this platform is greater than that of any other channel I can think of. Because not only do you create interesting and valuable videos that are worth being seen, but you provide some very basic and very essential education that is, as of now, very difficult, if not impossible, to find elsewhere. Thank you.

Seeing the indifference European people show you is heartbreaking. They preach the world how to be civilized but are openly racist to the Romani people who live right beside them. If it was up to me I would invite Romani people back in India and give them land where they can practice their own culture and speak their own language. But alas, India is itself still a developing nation with a lot of problems. Keep spreading awareness, we are with you 👍

GOD thank you. 👏🏾I am African American who become interested in the Romani people as a child. Because there were rental houses in my neighborhood were Romani families would stay in for a season or so. Then as an adult I searched what history I could and I did find some of the parallels to American slavery and persecution is chilling. I have always found it laughable that "white" is supposed to be pure? and in the name of persevering that purity people of color are still throw into dangerous situations and living hells. And yet we have ways to remain gloriously free in spirit and loving in our hearts.

Amazing video
As a French person, thank you for making me a little more knowledgeable and this should
be mentioned in schools!

This channel was so necessary. I am an Indian and my dad told me about the Romani gypsies. I watched a youtube channel called "Nomadic Indian" who went to Ukraine and recorded a video in a Romani neighbourhood. This video was made before the war, I can't even imagine what'd have happened to the Romanis. Years of persecution. If there is anyway. I'd love to talk to you sometime.
