Chrissie Watkins takes her last swim before being dragged beneath the surface...

From Jaws (1975): When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.

Rest in peace Susan Backlinie. She IS the actress here that is attacked by the shark.
She passed away today.
She was 77.

Saw her at the Jaw’s panel along with Richard Dreyfus last year at Scarefest in Lexington, KY. 77 is so young! She is part of the first summer blockbuster and part of one of the scariest scenes of all time. What a legacy! Rest in peace, Susan.

I saw this in the movie theater shortly after its release in 1975. It’s now January 2023 and after countless viewings this scene still scares me to death. Well done, Mr. Spielberg, great music Maestro Williams and terrific acting job by Susan Backlinie, “Chrissy.” The audience screamed in unison.

Omg, this was really scary as I watched in theatre, in 80s, still haunting, the very sound of water is worth fearing

Fun fact: she actually never knew she was going to be dragged underwater, which is why those screams sound so genuine, because they are

I was 3 when this movie came out, i remember seeing it with my aunt and her teenage friends who snuck me in to the theater, The line to get in was literally around the entire block, Quint in fact was my inspiration to. become a fisherman, Jaws will always be the Greatest movie of all time!!

The dragging and tossing around is not really as shocking as could have been, yet the whole scene still is unexpectedly shocking.. the screaming, the way the screaming sounds like a compressed stomach bloating out for a second.. the music just Franticly in the moment.. it is absolute the silence afterwards to let it sink in for a second.. and wham.. you got cinema at its best..

Am I the only one who kept doing that leg move in the beach or swimming pool after watching this?

I thought Jaws was a great movie and it’s a classic, it’s just unfortunate that sharks got such a horrible reputation because of it. :(

The Exorcist may have made you scared to go to church and the hospital, but Jaws probably made you scared to go to the beach.

Jaws - 1975, is like one of the 10 most influential films ever made, ominous lurking aquatic horror beast, dreadful, unforgettable and i actually saw this in a theater in 1975 when i was like 9 years old, a genuine mind altering audio visual experience, , like wow.
Best part terrifying and awesome > 2:35 and like is this what she says here? > 2:44 > "Oh god why have you abandoned me?!" like wow, never heard that before til i listened loud thru real headphones and its genuinely disturbing.

Among all horror movies, Jaws is one of my favorite ones. Along with Alien, Halloween and It.
