Am I ready to date again after divorce? Let’s be honest, dating can HELP you recover from your divorce. Getting back out there, reminding yourself that there are other women out there (who want you!) can be healing. It can help you see possibilities in your future and heal the final wounds to your self image and self confidence.
So how do you know if you’re ready to date after divorce? There are six areas of your life that you want to look at to answer this question and make the best choice for yourself.
First, are you over your ex wife? Maybe you’re not FULLY over her, but how often do you think about her? How much does her opinion matter to you? If you’re using dating to get revenge or make her jealous, that’s a pretty good sign you haven’t moved on enough to date in a healthy way yet. Revenge dating is not going to help you move on or get over your ex wife.
Second, are you emotionally stable enough to date after divorce? If you get rejected, will you be able to handle it? The best dating advice I can give you at this stage is to be honest about your emotional state. If you aren’t ready for rejection, you aren’t ready for dating. Be kind to yourself, set yourself up for success.
Third, have you grieved your divorce? Even if you’re glad to be rid of your ex wife, divorce is an ending. There is loss there, even if you hate your ex. And loss needs to be grieved.
Fourth, do you know who you are after the divorce? Have you taken the time to consider who you are if you aren’t a husband? If you aren’t a provider? This step can feel a little scary. But to move on with confidence this is something you need to think about.
