Update to the information here. Newer versions of Photoshop use layer information that Gimp cannot not utilize in it's layer format. This means you can no longer work alongside someone that uses Photoshop and keep layer information intact.

If you notice issues with the render when opening in the manner described you will have to import the image as a merged file loosing all the layer information. (If not sure if your render with layers is correct open both ways, they should look the same.)

For reference to menu location, see the open dialog box at the 12/13sec mark. Bottom left of the box you will have to click the plus button to open the drop down menu -(where it says "Select File Type(Automatically Detected)")- and manually select Photoshop Image (merged).

This will open the image with no layers.

As some have mentioned, even with layers there is no text editing as Gimp does not recognize a layer as text.

wheni try to open a psd file, i cannot see the layers ??

They don't load the layers of my image, they turn them black and you can't edit that specific layer :/

When I open a psd file in gimp I cannot modify the text. The text is a complete image layer. Is there a trick that Gimp recognize the text as text in the layer?

for some reason it just stopped at 80% it has no progress
