Dr. John should be called The Mentalist, he figures people out just by hearing their voice.

Procrastination can also mean that the person is afraid of not doing the task perfectly.

To May: As a nurse who has spent her career in the Ivy League, don't waste your money. Earn your degree the most cost efficient way possible. No one cares where you went to school, except Ivy physicians who will think you're stupid anyway because you're a nurse and not a physician (yes, they exist). Ivy degrees are overrated in many instances -- this is one of those instances. Put your money towards the house like your husband wants. You'll enjoy it more and secure your financial future in a way you otherwise couldn't. Let's put it this way: Is a piece of paper you can earn at many schools as valuable as a home where you hide every day after an emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting ICU or CRNA shift?

I used to think Ivy degrees were super important and nearly forked over all the money I had saved for a down payment for an Ivy degree. Then I thought about what would serve me better long term. I bought the house and haven't looked back. No one cares where my degrees are from, but my house and neighborhood sure are nice! Good luck to you!

George meant "balm" for the soul, not bomb. Someone in chat had the wrong word. LOL

I mean you can still get a 30 year mortgage and make huge chunk of payments. If there is a month that is rough at least you won’t have to be obligated to pay a huge minimum payment. My case I have a 30 year. My monthly payment is $1360 but I pay monthly 4500 unless something comes up that month.

The first dude Dave would’ve told him what to do and stopped because that dude was doing his own thing and will continue doing his own thing

One thing….they take too long on each call. Dave gets the answer out and whips through to another caller.

Families have different abilities and outlook for helping with education after high school. In some instances, children need to cover it all. Other families have more options for support. It's rarely a good idea to let our children think that we can cover anything and everything with no ground rules for behavior or spending limits. That's just not a financial option for most families, and they need to know BEFORE beginning a program, what is expected. (Some families have included - Our support at this level depends on whether you meet these expectations. 1. Good grades - and parental access to school records. 2. Moral lifestyle - which might include connection to a church or ministry. 3. Regular communications with parents - (some set weekly/bi-weekly call times. Whatever works. Of course they are growing into young adults, but if they are hoping for financial sacrifices toward their education, it's still a team effort. . *IF* parents are contributing toward advanced education (college/trade school), and someone says that they'd like to save money by living at home, that could be a WIN/WIN. Everybody saves money. Of course, ground rules for contributions need to be mutually decided upon. Room and board is certainly cheaper at home, as long as it's a peaceful situation. Families can decide if they want their child to contribute financially and/or with work around the house. I've also known families that aren't struggling financially to "charge rent, " but keep it in a savings account until some later date or milestone has been reached. At the moment, it sounds like there is a responsible young man who wants to make a smart decision beginning his future career. Perhaps there is a little fear about launching as well. Community college is often a GREAT place for the next step while kids gain another year or so of maturity.

People that pay on time keep pay day lenders and credit card co in business while the people that get behind and pay high interest make them money. If ppl stop using them, business practices will evolve to something different, and hopefully better, and those companies will no longer be needed. I know there’s lots of other roads to go down, but this is getting long.
