Here is a Step-by-step tutorial on how, and why you heel-toe downshift. This is a skill that takes a long time to master, and I suggest you take the time to practice over and over before you attempt it at an open track day. Subscribe for more Track Tips with T.H.

The hardest part seems to be holding constant brake pressure while blipping the gas

One of the best out there. Maintaining track elements in your content will only excel your channel. It's the one big thing missing from most YT car reviewers.

I kinda figured out how to do it with my civic's not-so-great pedal placement, but I found your explanation/visual very helpful! Just trying to get my foot used to rolling that way now lol.

i taught myself to heal toe were i would use my heal on the throttle but sometimes i wouldnt hit the throttle or i would hit it too low to do anything. watching this makes it much easier to understand and is much more consistent. thanks man!!

Great video! I remember learning to heel toe in my Miata. Slamming on the brake so many times! It doesn't take long to get it, but it's much harder in my Mustang. I can do it easily now, but the pedals took a lot more time to get used to.

This is a great tutorial. I believe learning rev match downshifting before moving to heel toe is a good way to transition to the more advanced heel toe technique. This will help you learn how much throttle
you need to blip. Advancing from rev matching to heel toe you are simply adding more driver control.
In order to do heel toe safely you must ingrain each step in muscle memory or you will end fumbling around with the peddles and shifter once you really push the limits of your vehicles in corners.

Its pretty easy, especially in my e46! You can just roll your left foot over instead of actually using the heel.

I do it every day, every single shift. It can be a little hard getting used to, but after 1-2 weeks it feels pretty much normal. After that you just have to learn how much you have to press the throttle for each shift.

Worst one I have tried is a 1968 beetle. The gas pedal is so far away and so far in! It also does not have a brake booster and it is drum brakes, so the brake is pretty hard. Heel toe is almost impossible

Hey Marco! Not sure if you'll see this one, but you may enjoy "The Devil's Spear" by The Tiberian Sons. I think it's an interesting take on Ace7 music in that they blended two of the tracks together, while giving it a more rock/Top Gun feel. See if you can pick out which ones. ;)

Vw gti/golf r etc pedals do it seamlessly for me barely any movement of my foot from one pedal to the next and perfect braking or throttle input to Rev match

Is this what Henry Cavill was filming that he needed his mustache and could not shave it for Justice League??

I cannot heel-toe with my pedals. They are too far apart. But I do use rev-matching all the time.

Ya know I've been practicing on street driving but I can't seem to figure out exactly when I should do it. For a normal turn, rolling from 4th and have to go to 2nd. I usually do normal rev match to 3rd on the straight then I try to heel toe to 2nd right before the turn.

Heel toe is cool, but left foot braking and heel tow in comb id the way forward. No I haven't had a stroke. left foot braking on any corner where a downshift isn't required, heel toeing everywhere else, meaning you'll need to move those feet around a lot more.

Hi. Around 3:55 you mention "other methods of downshifting at the track". I didn't find them in another video of yours. Would you mind explaining them or pointing me to the video? (My legs don't work perfect and I just can't heel toe.) I have a ChampCar race coming up and need to figure something out...

I did this couple of times and my new brakes completely gone less than 3 months, less than 3000 kms, my car is 20 years old and this had happened few time before even I didn't do heel toe downshifting. I don't know is there a correlation.
