Sewing your first shirtwaist for your fantastic new history bounding capsule wardrobe!

In this tutorial we will make the Beatrice Shirtwaist pattern from Sensibility Patterns as our first blouse waist.

This is part of a larger project to create a full late Victorian to Early Edwardian(ish) inspired wardrobe for modern daily wear as a novice sewist.

I'm waiting for my Truly Victorian Countryside Blouse pattern to come in the mail for my first Historybounding blouse.

I made an Edwardian no fuss shirt waist first too. I still haven't done one with lace insertion yet, but it did give me the confidence on my 1916 shirt waist to spice it up and turn the base block into an armistice blouse. I am so pleased with the outcome of both shirts.

I intend to use with the Truly Victorian countryside shirtwaist and I can see I'm not the only one making that choice. My first piece is actually the Folkwear 201 Prairie Dress. I'm sewing my muslin "mockup" to use as a nightdress. I'll be crocheting the lace around the collar and cuffs as well. Did I mention it's all handstiched? Yeah. Gotta love that one-room cabin life. 😉 (Love the bunnies! Adorable!)

My heart! MY HEART!!!!

I love them SOOOO MUCH!

Also, your shirtwaist looks fantastic. I'd love to see you make it in the future in lawn, adding pintucks...maybe tackling insertion lace!

When I'm done with the wrap skirts I'm making as gifts, I'm inspired to dive in to garment making for ME.

This is so awesome! By the way, learning how you do your research would be really interesting!

This is a lovely clear and concise tutorial that will be a great help to new sewists. As for the pattern, my word it is awful and very obviously not been pattern tested as had it been, then all of these issues would have arisen during the pattern testing phase. Very slapdash.
