Take Me Home, Country Roads - John Denver (My Blue Ridge Journey)

My journey through the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia and Virginia while reflecting on prior stops at Valley Forge and Antietam...cut to John Denver's iconic song, "Take Me Home, Country Roads". The idea for this video was sparked by a wonderful conversation with an Uber passenger, Sharon, who was off to Virginia, and I said, I'll be there in a few weeks! "Where?"... "Shenandoah"...to which she began singing "Shen-an-doah River..." We lit up. Thank you Sharon, and hope you all enjoy!

This song was such a blessing a year ago when my dog died. The week before my Brutus was put down, this song was playing in my head as a comfort to me. I hadn't heard the song for a long time. Thanks to YouTube I found it and it's all my Brutus and how he loved the nature walks he went on every day (were dog walkers & he truly had a great life on all the walks in the country). I know my dog went to doggie heaven which perhaps is in West Virginia, Shenandoah river or wherever. I want to go there and find him..I think he got translated there or heaven itself. The song starts by saying Almost heaven...interesting isn't it?

First heard this song while in Basic Training at Lackland AFB in the summer of ‘71. After Basic, while driving across the Western US from home in Bossier City, LA to Fairchild AFB near Spokane, WA I heard it on every new station I picked up. Saw John in Germany, Vancouver, BC, and twice in Seattle. Love this song and most of his music. So glad his music is still available. Only wish the “Evening With John Denver” album was a video. Here’s to John and great music.
