I put the metro system with glass shower door from Lowe’s 3 years ago in my basement. The previous owners had tiled the bathroom in pink, was not good. They were also terrible framers, walls crooked. You have to make sure your walls are framed straight and floor level. I used self leveling mortar. Fixed the walls plumb. My comments would be to dry fit everything good. Also measure twice when cutting for shower faucet. Don’t use construction screws. I used brass screws so they don’t rust out. Also for the trim around the U-tile I used some pvc trim for outdoors, it was white and was was a nice look up to the t-bar ceiling. T-bar ceiling was made using pvc panels from Lowe’s and I sprayed clear automotive clear coat on the t-bar supports to keep it from potentially rusting. The U-tile and glass door have given us no problems. Easy to clean, we keep a small squeegy in the shower and the kids are trained to squeegy after shower. No leaks, no delaminating, door closes and not out of plumb. I am putting another on upstairs with a bathtub right now. Tile is great but a pain in the ass to remove and messy, I figure if I get tired of this look it’s an easy change to remove it and go with something else. All in all hardest part was getting the friggin walls plumb. Rest was easy.

Very helpful video, my husband and I are working up the courage to renovate our bathroom ourselves. Using YouTube of course...

The wall system is easy but the plumbing is not if you don't have access on the back side of the wall. The real trick is to install a new valve system first and then put the wall in. Also the pan drain takes a trip or two under the floor to get the drain aligned. Thanks for the video showing the composition of the wall. Pretty pricey for laminated fiberglass on particle board, but I guess you're paying for all that engineering. Thanks again!

Thank you for your video! what shower pan did you use?

think there would be any issue cutting out the back outside corner for a window? If it can be hole drilled out for the mixer valve, maybe an oscillating tool with metal head could cut out a window? what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Hey, great video on the shower. I’d like to know how you finished the area above the shower panels. It’s difficult to tell how thick the panels are and if there’s room for a backer board and paint. Any help appreciated.

Yeah, you have to watch these contractors closely. Had a friend building a new house. He cam in one day to find the plumber was putting in a sewer line from an upstairs bathroom, through the downstairs living room. His solution? "Oh just build a casing around it". My buddy said take it out and put it behind the wall that abuts the GARAGE and the Living room!! lol. If you're not on top of them they will do the most expedient thing sometimes.

So what do you think about it after having it installed four years now?

Hi Lance. I have purchased this shower wall system and the pan. I see there are a lot of negative reviews. I see you posted this video in Jan 2019 and would like your feedback on the outcome and overall experience of your shower.

I wish you would have shown how the bottom of the wall is attached and finished at the shower pan.

What is the red tape on the stud walls? Did you put a plastic sheet behind the walls for a vapor barrier?

hi, very helpful video! just wondering how the sterling base fit with the utile maax? I called maax support, they were saying i should use the recommended maax base designed for utile. However i find sterling of better quality and rigidness. Any issues with the fit? Thanks.

I'm curious what you think of shower floor now? Some people complain about the styrofoam giving out.

I currently have a corner shower that is tile and having issues with leaking. Is it possible to buy these walls and trim them to fit the base I already have installed? Thanks!

Damn, that's an expensive wall system...hope it doesn't get scratched. I can't help wondering how the finish will hold up to years of cleaning products.

The trouble is that since Coved19 you can't buy this shower in Calgary because there are no staff to deliver it either to you or the store. You have to drive about 700 miles to pick it up in Vancouver itself at your own expese which is a sign of the complete loss of services available to people which will get worse every day.

I already have dry wall up. Can I install this right over that?
