Sage / Breville Barista Pro Review - Video 1 of the New Barista Pro Series.

As promised, my first in a series of videos looking at the Barista Pro in detail.

By the way, when I say push the portafilter into the cradle and push it again to stop - I'll expand on this in the coming videos, but to expand on that slightly here as I probably should have done in the video:

It's a timer grinder, you can adjust the timer to get the right dose, but you start the grinder by pushing the portafilter into the cradle, and you can stop it by doing that again - or it'll stop by itself when it reaches the set grinding time.

This means it's not just a timer grinder, it's also an on demand grinder, you can set the timer for more than you'll need & just stop it when you think you're about there, and then weigh it, grind a bit more if required.

Also, when you push it to stop before the grind time is complete, it pauses - so what I'd usually do with the barista machines is to stop the grind mid-way through, level it off with my hand so I don't have a big mountain of coffee building up and spilling all over the drip tray, and then start the grind again.

By the way...If you're in the UK, and you're thinking of buying a Sage machine (any Sage machine, not only their coffee machines), join my mailing list at coffeeblog.co.uk and then drop me an email to see if I have a current discount code to share. I don't currently get Breville discounts, sorry, but I do sometimes have Sage Appliances UK discount codes to share.

Thank you for the great content. I set out to buy a 100 quid coffee machine for pre ground coffee, but after watching you I got convinced that I need to go all the way, and now I am looking at the Barista Pro.

which coffee is the best? bambino plus with your external grinder, or the sage barista pro with the included grinder? Have you tried to compare the inbuilt and separate grinder? would be VERY informative and interesting!
Thanks for a nice review :)

Hm... Can I use the grinder for my V60 or french press as well? Or is it better to go for a seperate grinder and a bambino?

Hi kev, just got this machine and think your videos are really useful. I feel like I’m pouring good shots and making nice coffee. For 19g in I’m getting 38-39g out in around 27-29seconds. Though on my machine the flow out the porta filter always hits about 15s and stops for a second or two and then starts again. Is this a problem with the machine or my dialling in?? Doesn’t seem to change whether I’m fine or coarse with the grind.. any tips would be awesome!

Just bought this machine so looking forward to giving it a whirl, this vid is great thanks. My only question (before even opening the box) having watched is, what the heck is 'pre-infusion stage'? Is this a widely known part of making an espresso, if so which point? Or is it specific to a setting on the display of this machine only?

Hello Kev, do you know if the sage dosing funnel included in the machine fits the basic 54mm normcore bottomless portafilter???

Thank you!

Hi, thank you for your videos they’re brilliant. Could you comment about the pressure of this machine being higher than the more favourable nine bar please?

I know that on your website you had a review of the Oracle. Could you also do an updated video review of that?

Thanks Kev I am just about to purchase the barista pro. I am a complete newbie but would like to buy a machine that will keep me ging for 5 years.

I seen a review online saying if you go with 18 grams that limited with the amount of coffee I will have access to & very limited with the amount of different coffees will have access to. (said its fine for dark roasts but will run into touble when you need more than 18grams) T

hey said the dual has a 58mm portafiler & 22 g of coffee beans which is a better option?

pro has a 54mm portafilter & 18 g of coffee beans

am I limited with the 18 grams of coffee?

Thanks so much for your reviews on the brink of pulling the trigger on the pro

Just bought this machine and will be using your videos to help set it up too! Please keep them coming! One question, it might seem daft, tips on which milk we should
Use? Supermarket / high street available preferably not super specialist online?
