For Mother's Day, I made this tribute to my mother and my late grandmother. This is the story of how my family came to the mainland from Puerto Rico, and the integrity of a woman who gave her word.

I am proud to be my mother's son. I don't know how I could ever be any prouder to have a mom like I've had. Someone who wasn't just a good mother, but a woman who cared enough to be a great mother. She has been among the greatest blessings life has ever given me. And I love her more than I can put into words.

Mothers shape us with their love. They bury their spirit into the bedrock of us and leave our foundation stronger for what they gave. What they sacrifice so that we might live better. We're chiseled into a more complete shape from the values they teach us and the examples they set. I wish to be an example of the women who raised me, so that anyone who knows me can say, "Damn, his mama did a good-ass job."
