Archimedes A3000 Finally Solved!

Cracked it today. One tiny via not connected to one of the cmos ram traces!!! I show which. The hard drive is still spinning hopelessly and there is no mouse .... yet but everything else seems fine.

If anybody knows why the cmos chip is only showing 0.9v off a fresh 3.2 cell then I would love to know.

Happy for now though.

Awesome job!!! I am shocked at how complex they are lol! I always assumed it just booted and that was it - all that stuff about rom modules etc is totally different to many other systems of that era. Maybe swap out that Conner HDD with a compact flash card or something. Those Conner HDD's used to fail for fun, but they were pretty fast drives.

You've inspired me to have another go at my A3000 which has the same issues, if anything more blue fur...

With your serial mouse in the serial port, try at the F12 command prompt:
*configure MouseType 1
or
*configure MouseType 2
these are to enable different versions of serial mouse... not 100% sure that works on the A3000 but it does on my RiscPC and A5000...

The standard Acorn quadrature mouse is
*configure MouseType 0

Yout hard drive is dead : it starts spinning then turn off. Dead.
To correctly shut down your machine : middle button on the Acorn logo, bottom right.

Sounds like the hdd is continuously powering down and up ?
