Surgical Site Infection is an incredibly important topic for surgeons, students in surgery and surgical trainees!

Surgical site infections are common in general surgery.

These SSI can result in pain and tenderness; however, they can also lead to wound dehiscence, SIRS and Sepsis.

Surgical site infection also has an associated mortality and is a tremendous cost burden to our healthcare system.

How do you define, diagnose, treat and prevent them? In this discussion on SSI I'm going to give you all of the answers.

You've given me more comfort! My boyfriend got tibia full rod surgery and still has a broken fibula. This helps me feel more confident in checking on his wounds.

Good day Dr!
I had a breast abscess surgery about 2months ago and it has refuse to heal, it keeps reoccurring under the previously operated place, purse has been removed through procedure twice. I was nursing but had to stop after the procedure.

Not sure if you will see this, but I have question regarding risk. I am a carrier of c diff and get super sick any time I have to take antibiotics . I am scheduled for surgery next month (lumpectomy) and my dr has agreed to forgo the typical iv antibiotics during surgery. Does this out me at a much greater risk of infection later after the fact? I have none of the risk factors you listed - except that major one about antibiotics . What would you do 😂
Thanks
