Appendicitis by definition is inflammation of the appendix. Typical causes include obstruction. Signs and symptoms include right lower abdominal pain. Physical examination may show pain at McBurney's point or a positive Rovsing sign, psoas sign, or obturator sign.

Appendicitis diagnosis is usually with CT scan, ultrasound, or MRI. Treatment includes appendectomy or surgical removal, antibiotics, and pain and symptom control.

Had an appendectomy at age 50. Sort of surprised me. They got it before it burst, so didnt need to be cut open. Three small holes in my belly, was back to work in 10 days. Had to have a CT scan to find it. I was taking antibiotics for a accessed tooth, so I guess it made the blame look normal.

I’m now have been referred to the Respiratory Dept at my local hospital. I didn’t add this to my prior post . I’ve been diagnosed as anaemic since . Been exhausted for years but only just had a doc that realised my count was low. She’s new and realised I should’ve been helped a long time ago. My oxygen isn’t enough for my cells to function. My muscles aren’t getting oxygen either . I think sinus blockages is partly to blame for breathing difficulties. I don’t smoke and my weight is ok . Never struggled to breathe before .

People should be aware that the pain from appendicitis is not necessarily felt in the lower right where the appendix is located. Last year I had a terrible stomach ache and thought it was food poisoning. 24 hours later I went to Urgent Care who then sent me to the ER.

Mine was a very bloated tummy. Later waves of pain starting with a niggle building up to borderline 9/10. Took 25 hrs before I got a CT scan . Sat waiting all that time on an uncomfortable plastic chair. I was taken to a ward . They didn’t spot it was ruptured /perforated until the operation took place . They had to flush all the pus out. I developed a low grade fever due to an infection. They checked my chest and urine, all ok. My blood oxygen dropped and I had nebulisers and had oxygen . I threw up and couldn’t face food . Had intravenous antibiotics. A physio helped me with my breathing. I went home with antibiotics. It’s a couple of months ago now and I’ve started getting pangs of dull pain on my appendix removed side . I’ll see if it settles but if it doesn’t I’m going to A&E for a scan . The stump they leave behind can get infected. They’ll have to invert it and stitch it in place . Another key hole surgery. More antibiotics. It’s more likely to be adhesions .
My neighbour had this after her op. The stump would be very unlikely as it’s 1/50, 000 chance of it happening. I’ll get checked if it gets worse or doesn’t go .
My neighbour was 23 and was sick 20 times . Ended up in agony . It had burst . She went twice to A&E. They thought it was a stomach bug at first . She returned as it got far more painful .

I had it and had No symptoms after 3 trips to the er.Because of a fast heartbeat.It was then caught after a week of being burst.I had 3 different surgeries to get all the infection out and now live with a - fib.Older people have little or no symptoms.I was 60 .So beaware.I have a scar from my ribs to my groin! 😧

Can you just have pain just above the right hip? As I have pain on lower right side but no pain in upper abdomen.

Risk Radiating? I was really upset my doctor had me get a CT when I had months of gastrointestinal issues over MRI. It seems unnecessary to do with all that radiation.

Hi, My mother's appendix ruptured and she didn't do anything about it for 5-6 days and she had her surgery today and the doctor said it went well and they cleared all the infection, but they said they found something hard in the abdomen (stomach) / intestines. ) they say there may be an infection gathered there, do you think the infection, bacteria collection could cause such a thing or could it be a tumor? Is this normal or appendicitis due to infection? Do you think its normal?
