They also pack a mean punch in bar brawls.

I kinda consider them armor? However, my overly technical a** sorta fell into calling shields "defensive weapons" as you generally want to be active with your guard while using them. Bucklers, especially. Though the larger the shield, the more passive protection you have. So basically, armor. And if I keep going, this Will become a wall of text.

When a good defense makes a good offense

It also serves as both a bowl and a plate. Very practical.

As long as you practice blocking with it, it is a fairly effective shield as well. I learned this fighting in practice matches for Buhurt.

Kinda shares the same advantages as a normal longsword or dagger.

These would never be your first choice for the battlefield, but theyre functional and light enough to carry around as either a backup or everyday carry.

So while you wouldnt want or be able to carry around a (spare) kite shield or halberd, these would be manageable, and better than nothing in a pinch.

Ease of carry is #1, always was.
Most effective weapon on earth is the one in your hand when you actually need it.

Having sparred with a buckler I can say they provide a genuinely surprising level of defence. They're also fast to strike with. They may not be lethal but it's still very much worth punching your opponent in the face with it if your weapon is bound.

I laughed at first but then you held it out and showed it could go on a belt and I immediately changed my mind

Made out of Cortosis it would be a game changer for a Jedi.

The rim of the shield is a formidable weapon. Capable of breaking bones and lesser weapons alike.

Games made by Mihoyo have some interesting weapons to look at.

One of the not often mentioned advantages a buckler has on other shields is you can actually attack from more angles than most bigger shields with a sword. (you can basically circle the shield and attack from any angle, which you can't do with say a kite shield or even a bigger round shield). And the difference in defensive capabilities against melee weapons isn't actually that big (but very very big against arrows, which you might find on a battlefield)

They're also great for directing all the force in a punch into the edge of the buckler, making them a decent choice for breaking the bones of unarmored opponents in close quarters.

The buckler is the perfect example that shields are and should be used as weapons not extensions of armor. Great for parrying and deflecting attacks, protecting the main hand on attack.

Now add boxing techniques with the buckler and you got a nasty combo.

It is EXTREMELY better than nothing! But i wonder if they would draw a lot more attention than just a sword. Like how I'm more likely to pay attention to someone with a bunch of extra mags than someone with just a pistol

On another good note, if you were traveling and carrying that buckler, you could use it for a pot lid when cooking over a camp fire, if you had a pot.. Or used for a game of medieval frisbee. :D
