What a great video on a use if the RGB mixer. And yes, it's true that it doesn't get enough love. I have seen in the past youTubers using the RGB mixer and pushing the levels of each up to 2.00 to turn up saturation, it should be pointed out that this does increase the saturation, but using it that way is no different than just increasing the saturation i n the primary tools from 50 to 100.
But this technique of borrowing from the green to push the trace over, is brilliant and something that I have seen done before, but completely forgot about.
I think fixing bad footage is an art. And I bet it is of great interest to filmmakers starting to do their own color grades. Especially in the documentary type films where there is virtually no set up time or gear, and worse no "retaking" of the footage.
I really enjoyed this one Darren. Nice job.

As someone who colors a lot of reality tv, I see shots like this fairly often. Thank you so much for sharing this technique with us. Actually, thank you so much for creating this channel. I love how well you help us understand the why and not just the how. That aspect helps me to actually grow my craft. Thank you so much!

It’s funny because that shot looks like something out of a Netflix movie with the yellow-green grade that’s pretty big right now. Super helpful though!

No channel put content about DaVinci Resolve like this, thank you mate.

Damn man...I just tried this on a piece of footage I HEAVILY and clumsily graded back in the day - I would normally have thought there was no way of making it look vaguely normal...but BANG, this made a huge difference!

2:56 this is an example of how they used to do special effects in black and white movies circa 1940's. Since it was in black and white, color filters and colored makeup were used the same way your image was affected by sliding a color while in monochrome. If they needed to do an aging effect on an actor, they would paint wrinkles and creases on his face with a certain color only. one filter wont see that color and another will. I just learned that last year and it blew me away on how cool that was. everyone have a great week! thanks Darren

Amazing job. What I love about your videos is you can tell this is what you do. You're a pro. So many other YTubers seem to just do the same videos and they're really just looking for ideas to videos to make videos. It'snice to see someone who knows color and has worked on your craft for so long.

Two years ago I didn't understand coloring. Then thought; 'mmm, yes, yes.' Partly thanks to you, I have known better for quite some time now. It's still wonderful to see your colormasters at work. Thank you Darren.

When pandemic started, i did not know anything about video editing but had to fix my daughter's videos which very very important to her. Tried hard to balance the color and minimize the color cast in a free online software. The color cast was still there but my daughter's friend was very happy for the result but was just better for me. Started to know about coloring from some locals video editors tutorial on youtube. When i knew Davinci Resolve is the proper software for video color editing, i found your video about color page tips for beginner and watched all your video & Cullen Kelly ever since. This video, again, is the best explanation for a beginner like me to understand more better about rgb mixer tool. Again thank you so much for all your effort giving very useful knowledge in video editing & color grading.

What a cool tool. To be able to use the dynamic range in one channel to boost another is genius.

Brilliant teaching. You not only showed us what to do, but told us why as you were working.

Wow, this was really great. I usually ignored the RGB mixer, but not anymore. I didn't realize what a powerful little tool this is.

Aloha Darren, I'm doing a BMD Color Training with Daria and we just did a shot matching exercise using the RGB mixer and a split wipe using the parade scope. It dialed the match in straight away and it looked amazing on a questionable shot. Glad to see you back in the saddle after the Mostyn Mayhem week of training! Between you and Daria I'm getting a helluva training!

Cant believe this tool isnt talked about more. Needed this for a problem shot and was pulling around the wheels for ages and needing to compensate constantly. This allows much better control. Thanks

I am really not comfortable with the colour corrections, so this was extremely helpful! Thank you.
