Couple years ago when i just started lifting i did this for about 1year and i didn't realize that this is only for short amount of time and i now understand why i felt like shit for months

I recently read a research study performed on men with 12-15% bodyfat (athletes that were elite level at that) who were able to maintain all of their lean mass while cutting in a either a 300 or 750 calorie deficit per day.

So these dudes were losing 2 lbs of basically fat and water per week while eating 1500-1800 calories…but the catch is they at 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight and lifted.

Edit - In case someone wanted to read it, here’s the name of the study:

“Body composition and power performance improved after weight reduction in male athletes without hampering hormonal balance”

What do you do with your calories after the mini cut, do you gradually increase them or jump straight to your maintenance calories?

How are you arriving at 1200-1500 calories per day? I am getting more like 1700-1800 based off the recommendations in the video. You are eating ~1k calories in protein and like ~500-600 calories in fat and then another ~200 calories in carbs. Thanks

I'm eating 1500-1800 and during over 2 weeks my stomach growled like once thanks to focusing on protein

But how did you put your protein and fat intake within 1200-1500 calories? For me 50g fat and 200g protein(3 eggs, 1.5 cup milk, 1.5 cup yogurt, the rest chicken breast) already takes 1500 calories

I'm starting to feel like the fitness youtubers who advocate for slow dieting phases just want people to stay fat so they can continue "helping" them. After being relatively lean (22% BF) dieting slowly and spending the last 2 and a half months suffering just to end up teetiring between 17/19% BF for the last week or so, i truly believe that the go hard method of dieting is the way forward. Even with the risk of rebounding after the diet is done, i can't see how this would be an issue for anyone who is serious about maintaining their results. Maintenance calories followed by a lean bulk through a slight surplass. Easy

I read somewhere a while back that in aggressive minicuts it is useful to eat to maintenance 1 day per week to ensure you aren't deficient in fats and micronutrients. Does that sound like a decent idea or is it bogus?
