Botswana, once a beacon of democratic governance and economic stability, is facing significant political and economic challenges.

With diamond rents projected to decline and concerns about corruption, media freedom, and governance under President Mokgweetsi Masisi, the upcoming elections on 30 October 2024 are crucial for the country's future.

This webinar aims to discuss Botswana's current trajectory, focusing on governance, resource management, and the implications for democracy and economic diversification

I don't think that the cost sharing/recovery is particularly a problem. The privatisation or marketization of higher education makes sense, in the sense that by asking for this cost recovery it means the money contributed to individuals can also be clawed back into the education system to fund others. this needs of course to be centralised and means tested on the graduates salary. There must be a threshold set of the annual income of the said graduate then if they earn above that threshold then money can be deducted based on the % that was agreed with the student loan company in agreement government. We need money circulating, and also public must become stakeholders where they put their hands up to say how can we build together not to continuously have a begging bowl out. this empowers both parents and students to demand high quality education as they are paying for it. Right now we have educational institutions that are just producing graduates that have substandard qualifications because there is no accountability and competition.

The split started with the former president before SSK into Barata Phati….i disagree with Dr Selolwane on that point….The economics of “privatization” of key organs of government and dis-investment is socio-demographic structures was the start when the opposition lost power and the “Professor Good” scenarios
