Those steel balls on the table have air coming out of them to float that heavy lift of paper. Those black angled devices on his right (and left) are electric eyes to prevent the blade coming down when he's reaching in. The screen in front of him shows programmable settings of cutting sequence. Amazing technology!

Running a cutter was my favorite job working in the bindery. Did it for almost 40 years.

I love the sound when you have just changed the blade for a fresh sharp one

Grew up in my Dad’s print shop, our big cutter electric motor exposed flywheel, that screeching noise of the belts catching and the windup of the motor was awesome ! Fun times

si yo trabajé en una de estas, además del aire en la platina, tiene dos células para no cortarte las manos, y además tiene dos botones, tienes que apretar los dos para que baje la guillotina, buena máquina.

When I started with the Corps of Engineers in 1977 I observed that they had their own printing shop with a similar paper cutting machine. It definitely had the requirement of each hand being on a knob or something on each side away from the blade.

I used to run a machine similar to this at a print shop. We made coil bound instruction manuals for an IT tech school. The one I used wasn't a 'feed type' like this, you just loaded each set. The booklets were tabbed so you had to set the depth of the cut to expose the tabs on the edge. This resulted in very few of the books in each batch actually being the same size.

Haha reminds me when I got a holiday job. I was 17 that time. That machine was a bit louder but it did the job as well!

I went to a vocational school and got stuck in graphic arts. Working this machine was my favorite station. Looking back I should have persuaded this skill and got a job doing it

Last time I worked with a large guillotine cutter was almost 35 YEARS ago and I still get chills looking at one. Old shop, no safeties, but at least they did not trust us young adults with it. And yes they had all their fingers. One may have been a little SHORT, but it was there.
