I’m not a welder but I’m very impressed with your wisdom. I’m 66 and have been knife forging for about a year. I need to learn mig welding which I’m trying to learn. But see a real welder is so impressive. It’s you guys that have made this country where it is today.

I've been a piping designer for 12 years, just recently promoted to senior designer. I've always tried to understand what the pipe fitters and welders have to deal with welding and installing piping. It's good to know. Good video.

I've been working in a welding lab in south Louisiana for the last 6 years, and you've given a lot of good advice! A couple points to emphasize...

-5:58 I cannot tell you how true this is... I've busted at least a dozen guys who claim to have welded for over 20 years without busting a test.
-Listen to what the inspector asks! Sometimes there's special requirements we have to enforce depending on the customer/code. At our place, you get one shot to fix the root as long as it's a reasonable area to repair. Not every place allows stuff like that.
-RELAX. It's just a weld. If you get too nervous, you get stressed out, and you don't perform. It's just like the welds you make in the shop. Relax, take your time and weld it up.

Good stuff man!

I am no welder but I was an apprentice. I barely got started and the man I was working for passed away. But the advise you just gave is priceless.

I'm taking MY FIRST OFFICIAL 6G tube test, during Common Arc testing a month from now with my local Boilermaker Union. One shot at a 6G extra heavy wall 2" tube, combo, TIG root and 7018 hot pass to cap. Its timed, 14 contractor proctors ready to inspect and pass or fail. This video is exactly what I needed to see and hear. Thank you! I'm looking forward to being a Union Boilermaker. A little background, I just finished a two year welding tech school and my apprenticeship starts soon!

Dude at the end seem super cool and he really knew what he was talking about. It's hard to stay humble in a welding environment with all the pressure and competition going on around you. As a 22 year old myself who hasn't even tried TIG welding yet it is encouraging to see guys like this who have been through it, and are willing to share that knowledge with the noobies out there. Much love to everyone in this video, I took a lot away from this video and will be applying it to myself in the future. Cheers

Thank you. I was feelin down today and this helped me. I found out a 1.5yr ago I have a tumor (benign, thank God), and it sits on top of my left optic nerve, attacked to my pituitary gland. I get migraines, get nausea and vomit daily. It took a yr before I got up and said ima learn to weld before I die! I bought a welder, all my gear and tank, and I've been (trying to) weld for about a week now lol. I'm horrible, but it's fun! Im learning Tig first, cuz it's hardest, but I learn a lot from you bruh. Thank you to your guest on this video too, he helped me today.

I tested in this lab and failed on my root for suck back. I learned from my mistakes and it made me a better welder.

CWI here-thanks for shedding light on the testing and qc process! A skilled welder has our respect every time! Makes our job a lot easier when you work hard and do it right by procedure

27:32 As early as 15-20+ years ago older welders would not impart ANY advice to young ppl wanting to learn to weld. Nowadays u have a whole new crop of excellent welders like these two young men freely giving advice. I applaud them. EXCELLENT JOB, young men! 👍👍👍👍👍

Great content. This helps many young and experienced welders alike. It also shines the light on our profession and how we must take regular tests throughout our whole career! So the next time someone whinges that specialist welders get paid too much show them these videos and help them understand that it’s a bloody demanding job! 👍🏼
