Ive been back to actively learning art for the last 6 years now and really needed to hear that last bit about shading being all how you want.
When I was in grade 9 my art teacher more or less ruined art for me when she wouldnt let me shade the way I wanted (now mind you I was also struggling with fundamentals and was too ignorant to see how much you need those, so thats on me), I was constantly expected to draw realism when I dont have any interest in drawing realism, and it killed my desire to learn how to shade and ultimately to improve my art, and here I am years later basically being told by this video that as long as you have the fundamentals it doesnt matter how simple you shade

I had an art teacher that told me when I was younger that my drawing was ridiculous and infantile. I was nine. After that I never more tried to draw nothing. just recently I started again and thank you so much for pointing that out. Made a difference for me.
