Even now I get a little uncomfortable when my minecraft terrain generates crosses, random floating blocks, and so on. Even though it's perfectly normal for minecraft it reminds me of herobrine.

Kids born after 2010 will never get to experience the fear of booting up into your Minecraft world

Being scared by Herobrine and actually convinced he's real, those are two things I miss nowadays.

herobrine was unironically one of the best mainstream video game creepypastas imo

I remember when we blamed herobrine on anything unusual in our world, now he's just a joke.

What I really loved about this was how the devs reacted to it. Everytime there was a major update to Minecraft (until like version 1.9), they always made one last patch note that said "- removed Herobrine". This just shows once again how actively the dev-team tries to interact with their community.

Great video and happy Halloween! ^^

Edit: Well, apparently they're still removing him, whoops! Gotta be honest, I didn't check the change logs since the redesign of the MC Launcher, sorry 'bout this misinformation ^^

I’ve been playing older versions of Minecraft lately, and cave sounds can happen at any freaking moment even when you’re not in the caves! It’s no one wonder Herobrine was thought to be real!

Man I remember the Herobrine video that showed low quality screenshots of him, set to the score of 'Requiem For A Dream' with a made up story of Herobrine being Notch's long lost brother.. The good old days!

The Legend of Herobrine is a great time capsule to the early rise of the internet. Back then, it's hard to verify or even express internet hoaxes at a time when barely anyone knew how the newly rising platform works, especially for children. There was no 20 minute documentaries that explains these myths in great detail and sourcing, nor was there a community mature enough to do them semi-professionally. Herobrine grew within the hype of Minecraft at a time when you can easily fool anyone on the internet. Nowadays, with everyone being able to do research and create analysis videos or documentaries, creepy legends tend to just stay as legends on someone's Wattpad or Deviantart fanfiction, and not go as far as Herobrine did.

In a modern setting, we can all say he was a story made by some dude in the internet. However, deep down a large portion of us believed it when the folklore was told to us as we were incompetent to prove otherwise. That was the magic behind the man with the blank eyes.

I mean I remember when creepy pastas were new and there were less than a couple hundred in most collections. Herobrine is a classic from an era of interesting storytelling

Herobrine is 100% real and I KNOW how to prove it. I am not kidding and no one ever believes me ;-;

I remember that back in the days, every changelog of a new update had the entry "removed Herobrine". Every single one of them. It's meant to be a joke of course. But it's actually kind of unsettling to think of an entity living in the source code that just can't be removed, and always comes back, no matter how hard the developers try.
