Thanks for this detailed info on scrum master vs project manager!!! I hear the terms tossed around a lot.

I'm struggling with the portion on similarities. It sounds like they are not very similar at all. From what I gathered in your video and previous ones:

Scrum Master is just focusing on the team's efficiency and development. (Product Owner/business owner and the development team combined fill the roles the project manager provides)

Where as the project manager is trying to do all three roles under one person.

At best the most I could gather is that the PM should be doing everything a Scrum Master/Owner/Development team (outside of the technical work). Where as those roles are broken up in Scrum.

What’s interesting is that there are people that are teaching that the scrum master is essentially the project manager. I’m not sure if that’s correct but it’s what is being taught in the agile environment “outside of csm, psm etc”

Think of it as a manager vs an assistant manager.

The Project Manager is like a Store Manager, someone who is responsible for the overall all business (aka the project.)

The Scrum Master is like an Assistant Manager. Someone who leads other team members and assists the Project Manager by overseeing and supporting smaller tasks within the business (aka project.)
