Hi Recipe for Success Network,

Today I'm going to share some information on Scrum Masters vs. Project Managers. Many of you are curious about the differences and similarities. I'll go through definitions of the roles of scrum master and project or program manager. I'll also talk about what each role does on a daily basis, the kinds of tasks they take on and how they work. I'll discuss some key differences between each role as well - focusing on tasks and established norms like working within Agile vs. working in a Waterfall setting. Lastly, I'll share my personal experience with both hopefully to help you decide which role is better for you. If you are a beginner project manager or entry level pm and are considering getting scrum certified or your CSM certified scrum master certification from Coursera, then this video is for you!

Hello Emma.. Great work.. so for Scrum Masters and dealing with stakeholders, you are correct, they do not deal with them as much as a normal "waterfall" PM would. In the Scrum world the Product Owner and Product Managers deal with the stakeholders and clients more. The Product owner is usually the single point of contact during a Scrum project for the Scrum Master and Scrum team. I do and manage both roles and I do like Scrum for application development and something like webpage/SharePoint site creation/development which has lots of revisions. This can be done quicker in my experience via the Scrum methodology. I like traditional Waterfall methods for projects like Merger/Acqs, Data Center build outs and large scale projects. With Scrum Masters becoming popular another great video idea would be a salary comparison between Scrum Masters, Agile Coach, Jr Project Manager and Sr Project Manager.

Hey Emma, I am a budding project manager and your videos really help me a lot on my Project Management Journey. I would really love to know how to create a roadmap of one's own career in project management and it would be great if you could talk about it in one of the videos.

Love your videos! I always learn so much. I do have to mention that your videos are very quiet but then get super loud when you play your intro bit. Thank you so much for the effort and time you put into teaching us!

Thanks for your videos, I love them. However I noticed you called scrum a methodology, I would like to point out that scrum is a framework, not a methodology. Thanks for your educative videos, they are fun to watch🙂❤️

I am looking to get a PMP cert which one would be the most cost effective? Should I try to learn Agile or a different methodology?

Hey Emma. Any opinion on the PMI-DASM over the Coursera Scrum Master Certification Specialization? New to agile and I understand the basic concept, and I am looking for something to further my understanding. Thanks!

I have one question, I am having around 7 years of experience in IT domain as a developer. I am bored with development and want to move into non development role. So should I go for scrum master or Project management course? Which have more value in company?
