GoPro Awards: Ocean Ramsey and a Whale Shark

preview_player
Показать описание
Captured and submitted by GoPro Awards recipients Ocean Ramsey and Juan Oliphant.

Join shark biologist and freediver Ocean Ramsey as she films with whale sharks in the Philippines to document migrating populations. Whale shark populations are at an all-time low due to finning, fishing by catch, entanglement, speedboat prop collisions, and death by ingestion of floating debris.

Swam with one of these on a reef off Santa Rosa Island in the Santa Barbara channel when I was doing commercial abalone diving in the 70's. Not possible to describe what an otherworldly experience it is but Ocean and her crew nailed it

This is just amazing, wow. When i get older and become a marine biologist I am going to study and swim with these beautiful sharks.

As somebody who has dived at this tourist trap I can say she has done an awesome job of editing out the tourists and boats. Very good selective editing.

This is my favourite video of all time. Been on YouTube since 2003, I'm 46 years old and this the most stunning video imo. That's a big call

Just came back from Oslob, Cebu.
Went twice in 3 weeks. I followed
all rules. Nobody should touch these gentle giants. Butandings
(whale sharks) are truly amazing.
The little place is a fairyland of
exquisite beauty. The nearby
Sumilon Island is another enchanted place. WOW!

This is in Cebu. Local fisherman feed them and use as a tourist attraction. You can see canoe with a fisherman in front of the shark on 0:33. Usually there are hundreds of people up there.

I've done this with Ocean and her crew recently in Hawaii. She is very down to earth and has dedicated her life to educating people on the behavior of sharks. This video just doesn't do justice to meeting her in person and snorkeling by her side. Her passion for what she believes in leaves an impression on anyone who is strong enough to experience her cause. It was truely unforgettable.

I met Ocean Ramsey November 2019. I gave her a ride from Honolulu international airport to North Shore. She is a marine biologist and shark conservationists. She mentioned about swimming with whale sharks
in the Philippines. 🇵🇭
she invited me to swim with the sharks with her crew but the idea scares me.😱😂
She is so gorgeous and cool.👏🏼👍🏼✌🏼❤️

I snorkeled with whale sharks off Ningaloo reef in western Australia Australia in 2019. One of them, due to me misjudging where to position myself in the water, missed me by a metre.
A definite highlight of my life. Stunning creatures.

Ocean Ramsey is always a beauty to behold especially underwater which seems to her natural world among the creatures of the ocean, big and small.
