I have been living out hear for 10 years now and the cell phone reception has been bad the entire time. I have to stand or lean my head against the window with the phone our go outside so I don't drop calls. And now that I have a smart phone and plenty of data it would be nice if I can actually use it. Most of the time I'm lucky if I can Bring up my Facebook feed. 1X popping up on the screen means death to the use of my phone for the evening. Sometimes you can turn off the data and back on and get 3G for five more minutes and finish watching the lowest Quality version of the YouTube video. But now I have found a solution. Finally I have cell phone signal coming out my ears. I figured out a way to boost cellphone signal through the roof. YouTube videos play before you even click on them. I haven't I had to wait for buffering once since I've installed the cell phone booster. It was so easy to install. A must have for every off grid homesteader or anyone that just suffers chronic week cell phone signal. Worth every cent I spent on this and now that I have it I'd have payed twice as much knowing how well it works. Even if you only have a hint cellphone signal this will make it like you're sitting next to a cell tower. No dropped calls ever again. You'll be able to stream video and even Skype clearly with friends. The WeBoost cell phone signal booster only costs $549 on Amazon and it is awesome. I linked it below for you. It's like having your own cell phone tower in your backyard !!!

Hi Zachary, Congrats!! I watch all season from 1 to the last season 3. Out all the season you lasted the longest, 87 days. This has been something I wanted to do and test myself. Always been loving the outdoor and this is a good opportunity to see how far I can go. I watch and study everyone on their ability in building shelter, hunting for food and etc. Four things in my opinion if you want to survive in this harsh environment. 1. shelter (Good shelter that can withstand the wind, rain, etc..) 2. Getting food (fishing, hunting) 3. Making fire ( A must) 4. Don't waste calories unless is something that will benefit you on this journey to survive. Any tips on your end on getting chose to participate.

one more thing, the TV antenna, keep and eye out for someone who has an old large TV antenna, the kind that looks like a K with a line through it. Many people will let you have them for free if you take it down. (if they arent using them still) Those type of antennas do REALLY well with the new digital channels, but remember the same rules apply, mount it HIGH up and it is also directional, point the open part, the mouth of the K and the long protrusion at the city that would have the transmitters. Also you can use that same antenna for monitoring a police scanner or weather radio, you just need splitter a coax splitter and adapter from F-type connection (cable TV style), to BNC for the scanner.

Elevate the external antenna as high as you can. It will work better, and try pointing it in different directions.

All that is really needed is the WiFi card from a laptop (antenna cables) they fit the antenna port inside all smartphones, one problem is either you'll have to leave the back of the phone open or drill a hole slightly off center to the antenna plug, both leaves device more prone to water damage, a solution to this is to utilize 2 phones one with cell service arranged with antenna cables, dish and hotspot enabled and use the second as the primary used device. Might be easier to make a video

Any chance of doing a speed test? I've heard you need 2 antennas for good lte boost, but most of these boosters only use one antenna. Boosting lte signal is most important to me, I don't care about boosting cellular signal for calling.

Great Video! Good Luck with this weekends storm - that boosted signal is just in time for the storm headed our way, might need something to cure the boredom of a snow day!

Thanks for showing this! I don't live "off grid" but I live out in the woods & get maybe 1 bar of signal outside (if I stand on the front porch or walk out in the front yard & hold my phone up until it gets signal). There are zero bars inside so if I need to send a text or make a phone call to report my landline being out (it's been out for a few weeks now), I have to go outside in the rain to try to get signal.
I've been hoping to find a solution that didn't involve putting wires in to the house from the outside, although I've done that in the past-- tried all sorts of antennas but nothing ever worked.
Can the cord between the two devices be extended & can they be more than 25 feet apart? I'm seriously thinking of mounting part of this on a fence post outside, running some conduit for the wire underground and then running it under the house & up through the floor somewhere. Although, I wonder if there is something smaller & less expensive that would work.

You should have 2 antennas, because LTE often uses MIMO.

Good for you !
What makes me mad is I don't live off the grid, we don't get cell service and they won't give us a booster, but they charge us for a service they don't deliver !
About the same with our TV /internet service. So far out on the limit kept going down because it was burning up some relay thing, they said. Had to go to satellite . Is expensive and very limited time, on internet.

I am glad that it worked for you, but satellite dishes made to catch from the sky so where you put your antenna is not the center of the signal could be better but you want the dish optimal angle pointed at the tower not the sky and antenna pointing same way!

Download a signal strength meter on you phone to test where to put the outdoor antenna.
