Taotao ATM150-A Evo scooter - CVT drive belt change - replacement with Gates Powerlink VE

In this video you'll learn how to replace the CVT drive belt on a Taotao ATM150-A 150cc GY6 Chinese scooter. You'll need a phillips screwdriver, 8mm socket w/extension, a spanner tool to hold the variator fan, a 1/2" drive breaker bar (I used a 25" from Harbor Freight), 1/2" drive 2" extension, 1/2" drive 17mm socket, torque wrench. Based on suggestions in the scooter forums, I went with a new Gates Powerlink VE 835-20-30 CVT drive belt. If you have an impact wrench, that'll work as well. If you don't have a spanner, you can make your own. See my other youtube video on how to make your own indestructible spanner for $25.

Great video, I really enjoyed it. By the way you used cardboard sheet, locktite, and torque wrench, I would say you are very responsible mechanic. Thank you!

When using a click type torque wrench once you here to click you are at the set ft pounds. There is no need to tighten any more. If you keep going that is past the set amount. Otherwise great video very informative.

I'm just glad someone didn't listen to the crap about Chinese scoots. All things can last, if you take care of them.

How often do you have to change the drive belt at what kilometers?

Very good idea mate with bolts on an outline frame! Will give that one a go. Cheers!

Toward the end of the video, right before you put the cover back on, the belt appears to be kind of loose. When you cut to the next scene it appears to be tight although it doesn't looks like you've moved anything. How did you get the belt to tighten up?

A ONE INCH PIECE OF STYROFOAM WORKS PERFECT. JUST DRAW THE COVER, AND THEN JUST PUSH THE BOLTS IN WHERE THEY GO.

After the engine is broken in (several hundred kilometers) you can change the gear and motor oil every 1, 000 km. During breakin you'll get a lot of metal fragments and particles. That's normal.

I'm glad my videos are helping. I'm not familiar with the throttle and acceleration problems, so I'll have to refer you to a forum I use. Post a question on itistheride (dot) boards (dot) net. The gurus there are pretty good about helping out and troubleshooting. Or try scootdawg (dot) net. Good luck!
