Innovative and future-oriented, this is the international GIS day. For more than 10 years, the Upper Austrian State Government in cooperation with the Private University of Education has been offering the largest GIS event in Austria.
In the state capital Linz, more than 400 Students from all over Upper Austria were able to experience geography in its most interesting form.
At more than 30 workshops, the geo-experts provided the young people with the dynamic processes and their complex interaction in the fantastic realm of geoinformation.
In Upper Austria GIS is known as DORIS.The Department of Geoinformation of the Upper Austrian Government has now perfected the "D igitale O berösterreichische R aum
I nformations S ystem" for iOS and Android.
The new free app can now be downloaded in the respective stores and offers up-to-date, parcel-accurate information from more than 1000 theme layers.
And another innovative idea was presented: The LisiGo app monitors the traffic flow around Linz in real time and provides information about the current traffic jam situation, as well as useful forecasts for the next 30 minutes.
After exciting and eventful hours, without any traffic jams, the students were rewarded with great prizes and were audibly excited.
