Taking your own car to a driving test - no dual controls? parking sensors?
Short term learner insurance

For some learners they may end up doing more practice in their own car, as such they will feel more comfortable taking their test in their own car, but is it acceptable for the test?

Generally most car are acceptable for the UK driving test, but some may not be accepted such as convertibles, you also need to make sure the vehicle is road worthy.

Other common questions are:

- Does it need to have dual controls?
- Can I use my parking sensors, cruise control, electric hand brake?
- What else do I need to bring with me?

In this video I go through the key things to consider when taking your own car to a UK driving test.

Luckily, i have done my MOT and fixed everything that need to be fixed 2 weeks before my Exam, even after I passed i still watching all your video again and again :) and did support your channel. Thank you again

I started learning later in life (at 57), and had only started learning with my instructor for a few months when the first lockdown hit & all lessons were cancelled!! Luckily I was in a position to buy an old second hand car (it was an 18yr old vauxhall corsa) in very good condition for it's age. So I was still able to go out & practice with hubby. Once lockdown was lifted, my instructor even came out a few times in my old corsa and agreed I drove it better than his brand new hyundi i10 😂 anyway, long story short, I passed my test first time in that little corsa. But it also helped to watch all these instructor videos on youtube. Although it's over a year and a half since I passed, I still love watching these videos, as every day is a learning process. Thank you 😊👍
P.S. (I also thoroughly cleaned inside the car and had it washed on the morning of my test, so it looked really nice)

Hi,

Thank you for the explanation. I have a question about my windscreen. It has a straight crack, but it's not very long and is located on the passenger side, so it doesn't affect the passenger's view. Can I still use my car for the driving test?

Thank you.

My test is in 3 days. Getting there without the instructor and will be driving around areas where I wasn’t before in my own car. Wish me luck🤝. Also, any tips before the test from the ones who failed or passed?

Great information. About to begin to teach both my 17 Yr old and the Mrs to learn to drive using my C1. And would love to get them both driving to a good standard and passing a test with no professional lessons.

Is it mandatory to carry an extra mirror while using your own car for driving test or will the examiner provide one at centre.

Hi I'm learning my daughter to drive. She's taking the test in a year 2000 corsa b. She is insured as a second driver on my policy so would I have to accompany her in test as well as the examiner?
