Don't forget that Kursk holds one of the few remaining outlets for Russian natural gas. Taking this out of play will hurt Russia economically just at the time when they are already strapped for cash. It's straight out of Sun Tsu and actually a brilliant move on their part because Russia can't ignore the threat and those troops have to come from somewhere else. Where are they most concentrated? Zelinski is not being disingenuous about taking russian land. You're missing the difference between occupying temporarily a portion of russian land for possible negotiating purposes vs russia taking with every intention of KEEPING the Ukrainian soveriegn territory for it's own. There's quite a few miles of difference in the two to say the least.
